Running in the mountains is a great escape from your everyday life and an opportunity to explore new trails. With every hill you climb and valley you cross, you come away with a feeling of accomplishment as you take in the breathtaking views… ultra running in the mountains can be therapeutic for both body and mind.

It’s important to plan ahead when running in the mountains, no matter how experienced of an ultra runner you are. Make sure to check the weather forecast before heading out; if it looks like rain or snow is coming, make sure to bring extra layers of clothing and something waterproof. Bring plenty of water (or sports drinks) with electrolytes to stay hydrated – dehydration is common in high altitude areas due to the lower oxygen levels. Familiarise yourself with the trail and be sure you know where you can find water and help if needed. And perhaps most importantly, have fun and enjoy it!
