Patagonia Women’s Houdini Stash 1/2-Zip Pullover – Test & Review

As I pulled the jacket out of the packaging I could instantly tell that it was very thin and lightweight. I liked the pale green colour (perfect for Spring and Summer) and the fit is slightly oversized and relaxed so I can pull it over two other thin layers if I wanted to. As it’s Spring getting the balance between being cold and then becoming warmer as I’m a few miles in can be tricky. I was keen to see how the 1/2-Zip Houdini Stash pullover from Patagonia got on.
First off it was extremely easy and convenient to pack away and then pull out to use. It easily stashes away into a pocket making it an excellent lightweight windbreaker.
The Houdini Stash pullover kept me dry in drizzle rain and then dried off very quickly. I wore it with a long sleeved merino base layer underneath it so I was both kept warm and dry. You wouldn’t notice that you had it on it’s that lightweight, though the material does rustle a bit. My size 14 had plenty of room so when I wore it on warmer training days it was loose and breathable. You can also loosen or tighten it with the handy toggles at the bottom of the Pullover.

I found that it blocked the wind enough so I didn’t get cold when I was hot and more than a bit sweaty! And therefore it was really good that I could part zipper the Houdini pullover down to let the air in and cool me down again. With the extra vents you have no chance to overheat. It was easy to pull off over my head even when running so I didn’t miss a beat. Plus the main front chest pocket meant I could happily put away my phone or house key. It’s two bottom pockets were also a good size for gels with their velcro fastening and they were easy to access when on the go.
This makes it an ideal running item for ultra runners.
Patagonia has crafted it from 100% recycled materials and treated with PFC-free DWR. This ensures comfort and protection against wind and light rain. It meets both sustainable credentials and therefore is a great ultra running kit companion.
