The MdS is a six-day ‘ultra-marathon’ or ‘ultra’ run over 150 to 156 miles (254 kms). But it’s not just the distance that makes it the toughest footrace on the planet.

The terrain is harsh – it will shift your perspective. The heat is intense – it will demand your respect. You will carry your pack, but bed down in communal tents sleeping eight in a bivouac village. You will share stories, support, laughter and make life-long friends.

Each stage will present a fresh challenge, with the longest in 2017 stretching a brutal 53.5 miles (86.2 kms). The route and format shift each year.
