Episode 2 – Training And Preparing for An Ultra

Welcome back to this series of articles to help you train for your first ultra or you could be someone looking for ways to perfect your own training plan. In any case, this edition should be of some use to you.

Arriving at this years Chester 100Mile ultra with GB Ultras

In the first episode, we talked about how to get your body to a fitness level suitable for an ultra marathon (base fitness) but at the time we weren’t training specifically for any event. If you haven’t read the first episode, I highly recommend it, as some of this article might not make any sense at certain stages. (Episode 1 Becoming an Ultra runner). I decided to use some photos of my third place position at this year’s GB Ultras Chester 100-mile ultra.

Now that you got yourself into a fitness level that could get you over the distance, we now need to start looking into our chosen event. Every event has its challenges, which could be kit requirements, checkpoint locations, terrain and of course elevation. This will all need to be implemented into our future training plans to get us up to full fitness for the event.
