Who will be at the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia?

The starting list boasts a plethora of exciting names...

Ultra-Trail Snowdonia (UTS) is one of two UTMB events held in the UK. The event attracts participants from across the world and always features an exceptional lineup. The challenging trails and technical footpaths of Eryri/Snowdonia must be conquered by participants across four separate distances – 100 miles, 100km, 50km, and 25km.

UTS 100m

Women’s Field

The women’s field at UTS is set to be a fierce competition, featuring some of the UK’s most talented runners. Notable participants include Montane Spine Challenger North winner Nikki Arthur (GBR), Rachel Fawcett (GBR), and Myvanwy Hanna (GBR). Keep an eye out for Sanna Duthie (GBR), the recent winner of the Chester 100.

Corine Kagerer (CHE) looks to be a strong contender, coming eleventh at the UTMB last year.

Men’s Field

In the men’s field there is an eclectic mixture of athletes from countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Sweden.

Mathieu Clement (CHE) had several first-place 100-mile wins in 2023, including Trail Verbier St Bernard and The Canyons Endurance Runs. Notable athletes to watch alongside him include Mark Darbyshire (GBR) who won the Arc of Attrition earlier this year, John Shield (GBR), Bill Öster (SWE) and Cordis Hall (USA).

UTS 100km

Women’s Field

Zoe Murphy (GBR), Georgina Lewis (GBR), Tess Elias (GBR), Teresa Reason (GBR), Natalie White (GBR), Laura Nevill (GBR), Victoria Ratcliffe (GBR), Danielle Ledbury (GBR), Charlie Ramsdale (GBR) and Olivia Howe (GBR) among others will all battle as British athletes in the 100km.

Many international athletes, including Paulina Krawczak (POL), Jelena Malyseva (LTU), Sandrine Rozenburg (BEL), and Margrethe Fjetland Loevold (NOR), exceptional ultra athletes in Europe, are taking part.

Men’s Field

Athletes from the UK will have to battle against a strong line of competitors from the likes of France, Poland and Switzerland, with big names like Italian athlete Daniel Jung who boasts podium places in the likes of Translantau100, BVG Trail 2024, VALGROSINA TRAIL 2023 and Piglione Trail 2023.

Keith Wigley (GBR), Ronnie Sparke (GBR), Christian Meier (CAN), Gavin Dale (GBR), Gautier Bonnecarrèr (FRA) and Andrew Morley (GBR) will also be on the startline for the 100km route of the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia.

UTS 50km

While around 55km long, the route traverses technical terrain at an elevation of over 3300m (10,826ft). Josh Wade (GBR) returns to the event following his win in the 100-mile course last year. However, he will be battling against a tough men’s field, including Harry Jones (GBR), Luke Grenfell-Shaw (GBR), Shaun Stewart (IRE), Michele Merido (ITA) and Thibault Jean (FRA).

In the women’s field, there’s a cache of talent featuring athletes Sally Munro (GBR), Sanna El Kott Helander (SWE), Henriette Albon (NOR), Nicole Frisby (GBR), Zoe Allen (GBR) and Lena Glasbrenner (GER).
