Ultra Trails, who are they?

We are ultramarathon runners ourselves, regularly take part in events, and so setting up an ultramarathon event was always a pipe dream; something we said we’d do “one day”

That all changed when we first heard about the newly created route called the Wold Rangers Way, a 43-mile circular route from Driffield. Where do you start setting up an event? Exactly. We didn’t have a clue either. We have no experience or qualifications. However, I am a firm believer that experience and qualifications are not necessarily qualities that are a prerequisite to success. Straightforward hard work and perseverance get you quite far.

The event proved extremely popular, and we could have sold more places. However, we limited the entrants to 50, primarily to keep people safe. We knew our reputation would be built on – and always remembered for – our first event. Our savings took a battering for it, but we are in this for the long haul. We were rewarded in other ways.

People commented on how professional and well organised the event was. It was great to see people recognising this. It was also a relief that things went to plan! Read on to find out more about the event.

Inclusivity

Every decision we made about the event was thought through. Mel is very good at looking at things from a different perspective. It is by no accident that the uptake of women at the event stood at 40%.

We aim to be neutral and create an environment where everyone feels comfortable taking part in our events. Already, female registration for the 2nd edition of the Wold Rangers Way Ultra stands at over 45% at the time of writing this. Good signs.
