The Manchester 24 Hour Run Against Homelessness Returns for 2023

Over 5,000 households in Greater Manchester live in temporary accommodation. Just £30 will cover a bed for the night, food, and wrap around support. It is the lifeline that can change lives.

Set up in 2019 by Run Wild Manchester, a society at the University of Manchester, The Manchester 24-Hour Run Against Homelessness set out with an initial goal of raising £1,000 for the A Bed Every Night Scheme. Completely surpassing expectations, the event raised £2,826 in the first year and has risen over £26,372 over the four years of the event’s existence.

This year, they hope to raise £10,000.

Starting at 12:00 on Wednesday, 16th November, participants can join in the 5k lap by simply turning up at the host venue, 53two and waiting for the relay group to come by.

The relay group is led by a run leader and is run at a pace to keep everyone together for a social run. Participants can take part in as many laps or as few laps as they would like. The group aim for a relay group to set off roughly every half an hour. However, this varies due to different running paces.

The crucial point is bringing people together to raise money for The Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity scheme, A Bed Every Night

Over 5,000 households in Greater Manchester live in temporary accommodation. Just £30 will cover a bed for the night, food, and wrap-around support. It is the lifeline that can change lives.

Currently, 21 organisations across Greater Manchester provide accommodation for A Bed Every Night. This includes specialist women’s, LGBTQ+, pet-friendly and ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’ accommodation.

Runners from over 50 clubs/organisations are taking part.

For those who can’t make it to the event, we have a virtual participation option, where participants can sync their strava’s (or enter distance manually) to our virtual tracker, available on our website. Our host venue, 53two, operates as a bar during its usual opening hours, so participants can celebrate taking part after completing their runs.

This year’s event is run by students and alumni of the Run Wild Manchester Society at the University of Manchester, along with volunteers from local running clubs.
