Steve Parr Round FKT – Andy Berry

“my thoughts were simple, one hill at a time!”.

Durham based Ultrarunner Andrew Berry tells of his most recent challenge along the Steve Parr Round in an exclusive interview with Ultrarunner Magazine. Andrew snatched the fastest known time (FKT) from the previous record holder, Howard Dracup with an incredible time of 33 hours, 45 minutes, and 59 seconds set in the Lake District National Park which taking in all 2500 feet + summits.

Taking on his first Ultramarathon (The Wall) just 6 years ago, Berry said, “I just fell in love! Being in the mountains, for me, is pure freedom! It offers the kind of freedoms that allow you to be whoever you want to be! Moving through the fells at great speed, is liberating, yet you feel so small, and there is an acute awareness of the privilege of it, it is not to be taken for granted, especially after the last 18 months! (referring to COVID-19)”.

After being taken along to participate on a leg of the Bob Graham Round, Andy knew immediately that Bob Graham was the next goal on the agenda. Dedicating himself to training, he took on the arduous route, managing to complete the challenge in under 19 hours! Shaving off much more time than he had anticipated.
