SPORTS ENTREPRENEUR, SIMON DENT, ANNOUNCES HE IS RACING MARATHON DES SABLES 2023, RAISING MONEY FOR GREENHOUSE SPORTS & DALLAGIO RUGBYWORKS

Sports entrepreneur, Simon Dent, is today thrilled to announce he is racing in Run in the Sun Marathon Des Sables 2023. Through racing in the event, Simon is aiming to raise £50,000 for two incredible charities close to his heart, Greenhouse Sports and Dallagio RugbyWorks, with both charities holding a shared vision of changing lives through sport.

Simon Dent, is well-known within the world of sport, and has founded agencies Dark Horses and HERO Talent Management in recent years. Under HERO Talent Management, Simon currently manages sports personalities such as Chris Kamara, Warren Gatland CBE, Jeff Stelling, among many others.

Simon has been running since 2014 and still credits it as the most powerful, life-changing, and above all: accessible discipline. Simon can often be found running on the South Downs in Sussex, and he believes there is a clear overlap between the skillset required to become a successful entrepreneur and long-distance runner; according to Simon, both require practice, a growth mindset, motivation, resilience, passion and a desire to reach your end-goal.

The Marathon Des Sables is widely regarded as one of the most difficult long-distance races in the world, and from April 21st to May 1st 2023, Simon will take on the the gruelling 250km footrace through the Sahara desert in Morocco. The race has seen over 22,000 competitors since its inception 1986, with this being Simon’s first time taking on the challenge.

Speaking about the run, Simon said: “I found running at exactly the right time in my life. As well as the obvious benefits to my physical health it has hugely benefited my mental health and given me a huge amount of confidence that has be translated into other areas of my life. It’s an affordable and relatively simple gateway to a better life. Being able to fundraise for two amazing charities like Dallaglio Rugby Works and Greenhouse Sports is an absolute pleasure. I hope that by picking the ‘toughest race on earth’ I can raise some serious funds that will help youths gain access to much needed sports facilities and coaching.”

Simon has a long-standing relationship with charity Greenhouse Sports having first volunteered as a coach for the organisation 20 years ago. The mission of the charity is to deliver intensive sports coaching and mentoring to help develop the social, thinking, emotional and physical (STEP) abilities of young people from disadvantaged communities. Every year Greenhouse Sports provides coaching and mentoring to 8,000 young people growing up in high deprivation.

Speaking about Simon’s support of the charity, Greenhouse Sports CEO, Béatrice Butsana-Sita said:

“Simon Is a long-term friend of our charity, both as a volunteer in our early days, and now as our champion ultra-challenge fundraiser. He keeps setting the bar higher, from 50 to 100 mile runs, to his latest goal – the gruelling Marathon des Sables, he inspires us all.

Dallagio RugbyWorks uses rugby’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship to equip young people that are excluded from education, with the life skills and attitudes they need to move into sustained Education, Employment or Training after school. The charity has worked with over 2000 young people to-date.
