Race Report Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra 2021

Interview with Assistant Race Director Laura Hutchinson

Assistant Race Director at GB Ultras, Laura Hutchinson stopped by to give Ultrarunner Magazine the rundown of this years Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra!

The Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra (G2E) has been going for 10 years, prior to GB Ultras taking over the event. The original race was already an epic experience, but GB Ultras have made a few tweaks here and there and I think those adjustments have definitely improved the race for our runners!

We have changed the start line and finish line location and made the Ultra slightly longer. This year (2021) the race started at the Riverside Museum on the River Clyde, which is a fantastic location and probably one of our most stunning start lines, with a futuristic building on one side and a Glenlee Tall Ship on the other!

“This year, we had a very special treat on the start line! A bag piper played our runners off, and you cannot get better than that while you are in Scotland! The bag piper was a talented musician and added that extra wow to the start of this year’s G2E”.

This year the race ended at Saughton sports complex on the athletics track. I don’t know what it is about a track but the moment a running shoe hits one there is an almost inherent need to sprint, which considering these guys had already covered 55 and a half miles by this point, is incredibly impressive to watch!
