Josh Wade: Ultra-Trail Snowdonia Victory

"In my opinion, the race starts at 70 miles, at Beddgelert"

Still riding high on his victorious win, Josh Wade happily relives that sunny day on the rocky ledges of Snowdonia. The Ultra Trail Snowdonia features a ‘feast of technical trails’ and remains the only UTMB World Series event in the UK.

Josh Wade, from the Lake District, had completed the 50km and the 100km route twice. This was only his third time attempting a 100-mile distance, and he managed to secure a first-place victory while traversing 9500m (31167ft).

“I did my first ultra in 2017, and it’s progressed over the years. I’ve done some short races before that, but the ultra, but not much.”

Commenting on UTS: “I’d done the 100K twice, and I’ve done the 50 miles. I can’t keep away from the event; It’s too good. I love the terrain because I spend half my life on that terrain anyway in the lakes; the atmosphere is awesome, and the events are just growing as well.

“This year, there was some good competition as well. You get a proper day out at Snowdonia, running in the mountains. When I first did the 50 miles, I was just like, ‘Whoa, that was awesome. I’m definitely coming back here’”
