“Have basic map reading skills” – it’s a common request for events.

Of course, “basic” can mean a lot of things. But, as a minimum, you should (read must) know what you’re looking at on a map and be able to make sense of it.

Here is a bit of a controversial statement – those of us who teach navigation, should teach electronic navigation because it is practical, and realistically it’s what runners do.

Everyone has an opinion on paper navigation vs electronics, so this article is designed to help you understand what choices you might make.
