King Offas Unsupported FKT – Dr Robin Smith Interview

"...It is about learning that when things are bad, it is temporary, and you can carry on..."

Dr Robin Smith is a 38-year-old Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the Cardiff School of Social Sciences and the current holder of the Offas Dyke FKT.  Ultrarunner Magazine spoke to Robin to find more about his journey into ultra-running and the Offas Dyke FKT.

How long have you been running for?

I have only been running maybe ten years, I could not run around the park when I first started.  I got into running for climbing and then the love of running overtook it and that sense that I could just go off by myself and do it.

How long have you been ultra-running and how many ultras have you done now?

About five years, I think my first one was the Hammer Line in 2015.

I think I have done about twenty or so, I am not sure.  I was at six hundred milers, I know that.

Why ultras?
