I’ve been ultra running since 2018 when I jumped from marathon distance to 100k. I completed my first 100 miler last year, but think my favourite distance is 50 miles – it’s a big day out that requires significant training, but doesn’t take ages to recover.
I mostly run near to the beach which is a mile from my house, but my main love is the South Downs Way. There is a country park on its route with a wonderful forest, varied terrain, and gorgeous views when you hit the hills. It’s something special.
So it’s important to have kit that allows you to carry everything you need, without negatively impacting your ability to run with freedom on the trails. I am reviewing the BAM Enduro Side Pocket Sports Shorts in cascade print.
Firstly, the lock top side pockets meant that my phone was held in place one side, and my nutrition was secure in the other. There’s also a back pocket for anything else you need to store.
BAM have made a product that feels super soft to the touch, it’s supportive and allows flexibility in its movement. I’m really impressed! The material is thicker so there is no worry of it going see through when bending over, and they’ve been warm enough as the temperatures have changed from Winter into Spring.
Other shorts I’ve tried have side pockets but none I’ve tried so far have had the over locking seam which is a game changer. Zips might rub, and open tops make you question if your essentials will fall out, so this is great.
The material is bamboo so brilliant for ultra runners who want to be more environmental aware, and as it’s a natural product, it’s super soft. The quality is high, and durable with no signs of warping or bobbling after multiple washes and wears.
As it is a natural product the colours aren’t as vibrant as when new, but I think this actually adds to the look, rather than detract from it. The high waist made me feel good about how I looked, and the slightly longer leg length meant I didn’t need to worry about any thigh chafing whilst running.
Overall if you want shorts that are environmentally friendly, good quality and provide secure storage for your running essentials, then I’d recommend these shorts for sure.
